AMU Pharmacology Students Explore Drug Standardization and Quality Control at IPC and PCIM&H

Nai Dilli : A delegation from the Department of Pharmacology, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), consisting of 34 postgraduate students, 2 faculty members, and 3 technical staff, visited the Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC) and the Pharmacopoeial Commission for Indian Medicine & Homoeopathy (PCIM&H), Ghaziabad. The academic visit, guided by the Chairman, Prof. Syed Ziaur Rahman, aimed to provide the participants with an enriching learning experience focused on drug standardization, regulatory practices, and quality control mechanisms in the pharmaceutical sector.
During the visit, officials from IPC and PCIM&H conducted a series of technical lectures on various topics related to drug quality assurance, regulatory standards, and safety and efficacy procedures. These sessions offered valuable insights into the process of ensuring the high standards of medicinal products.
The delegation also participated in practical demonstrations showcasing the methodologies used in drug analysis, standardization, and quality control of ASU&H (Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani & Homoeopathy) drugs. The postgraduate scholars were encouraged to explore and study a plant from the medicinal herbal garden, focusing on its medicinal properties.
Additionally, the visiting team was briefed on two national programs coordinated by IPC: the Pharmacovigilance Programme of India (PvPI) and the Materiovigilance Programme of India (MvPI). These programs, which focus on monitoring adverse drug reactions and medical device safety, highlighted their importance in public health.
The visit fostered meaningful interactions between the AMU delegation and IPC and PCIM&H officials, further enriching the participants’ academic experience. The event concluded with a group photograph to mark the occasion.
Prof. Syed Ziaur Rahman expressed his gratitude to Dr. Raman Mohan Singh, Director of PCIM&H, Dr. Jai Prakash, Senior Scientific Officer and In-charge of PvPI, and Dr. V. Kalaiselvan, Senior Scientific Officer and In-charge of MvPI, for their support in organizing the educational tour.
