A Celebration of Academic Excellence, Culture and Community Engagement

TNN News : The Department of Teacher Training & Non-Formal Education (IASE), Faculty of Education, Jamia Millia Islamia, proudly hosted its Annual Day Celebration – Udaan on April 25, 2025, at the Ansari Auditorium, with a vibrant display of academic excellence, cultural heritage, and community spirit. Continuing its longstanding tradition of holistic education inspired by the ideals of Nai Talim, the event reflected the department’s dedication to nurturing well-rounded individuals. Before the celebrations commenced, the department observed a one-minute silence in solemn remembrance of the lives lost in the Pahalgam attack, paying heartfelt tribute to the victims and their families. The meticulously organized program initiated with the Tilawat-e-Quran, followed by the Jamia Tarana, invoking a sense of reverence and institutional pride.

The proceedings officially began with the felicitations of the Chief Guest Prof. Ghulam Yazdani, officiating Dean, Student’s Welfare and Prof. Sara Begum Dean, Faculty of Education at Jamia Millia Islamia and Guest of honour Prof. Mohammad Miyan, Former Vice Chancellor, MANNU followed by a Welcome Address by the Head of the Department Prof. Jessy Abraham.

The chief guest graced the occasion with the Presentation of the Toppers’ Medals, applauding students’ outstanding academic performances. The event highlighted student engagement with heartfelt expressions by B.Ed. students about the academic journey and easy urdu, showcasing the students’ reflective and creative voices. A tribute to Hazrat Amir Khusro, “Dastan Goe,” added a soulful cultural layer to the celebration. A moment of pride came with the distribution of mementos to members of the Subject Association by the Guest of Honour, and trophies for NSS area development and Wall Magazine contributors were presented by the Dean, Faculty of Education, Prof. Sara Begam. These recognitions underlined the department’s emphasis on both curricular and co-curricular excellence. We were honored by the presence of Prof. Rihan Khan Suri, Honorary Director, Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Jamia Millia Islamia, who also graced the occasion with his presence.

The cultural segment flourished with a vibrant Ghazal Sarai and a spiritually uplifting Qawwali, resonating deeply with the audience and enriching the cultural milieu of the event. The annual report presented by the head of the department Prof. Jessy Abraham, IASE, reflected on the department’s achievements and outlined future aspirations. This was followed by the distribution of certificates and mementos to house representatives, recognizing collective student efforts and house-level participation. Appreciation was extended to the volunteers, CCA and NSS coordinators, whose behind-the- scenes dedication ensured the seamless execution. The Chief Guest’s address offered words of encouragement, urging students to uphold excellence and integrity in their academic journeys. The event concluded with the distribution of Running Trophies, a heartfelt Vote of Thanks, and the National Anthem, fostering a warm sense of community and togetherness.

The Annual Day 2025 was not just a celebration, but a reaffirmation of IASE’s legacy as a pillar of teacher education in India. It served as a powerful reminder of IASE’s enduring mission—to cultivate knowledge, celebrate culture, and inspire future educators.
