JNMC-AMU Organizes CME on Pharmacovigilance to Strengthen ADR Monitoring and National Health Safety

Nai Dilli : The Adverse Drug Reaction (ADR) Monitoring Centre (AMC) at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), organized a Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme titled “Current Perspective on Pharmacovigilance” for faculty members and resident doctors from JNMC and ZADC. Held under the aegis of the Pharmacovigilance Programme of India (PvPI), Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, the academic initiative aimed to promote a culture of safety and vigilance in drug administration and healthcare practices.
The event was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Professor Mohammad Habib Raza, Dean, Faculty of Medicine, who delivered the keynote address. Emphasizing the need for a robust reporting system, Prof. Raza urged clinicians to report all suspected ADRs—known or unknown, serious or mild—highlighting their crucial role in enhancing patient safety and supporting the national PvPI initiative. He commended the consistent efforts of the AMC at JNMC in furthering pharmacovigilance goals.
The programme was coordinated by Professor Syed Ziaur Rahman, Professor of Pharmacology and Coordinator of the AMC. In his address, Prof. Rahman stressed that pharmacovigilance is both a professional and moral responsibility. He called on all healthcare providers—including clinicians, dentists, pharmacists, nurses, and even patients—to actively participate in ADR reporting to bolster drug safety and improve public health outcomes.
The scientific session featured presentations by leading experts. Dr. R.S. Ray, Scientific Assistant at IPC, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, outlined the evolving impact of the Pharmacovigilance Programme of India on national healthcare. Prof. Rahman further discussed the role and achievements of the JNMC ADR Monitoring Centre. Dr. M. Wasif Khan, Head of Global Pharmacovigilance & Global QPPV at Evolet Healthcare Pvt. Ltd., New Delhi, provided valuable industry insights and spoke on the growing career opportunities in pharmacovigilance. Prof. Kamran Afzal from the Department of Paediatrics, JNMC, presented a focused session on ADR reporting in children, underlining the specific needs of paediatric pharmacovigilance.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Imrana Masood, Deputy Coordinator of AMC-PvPI and Assistant Professor in the Department of TBRD, who acknowledged the contributions of all speakers, participants, and organizing members. Special appreciation was extended to Mr. Gufran Ali, Pharmacovigilance Associate, for his exemplary coordination, and to Junior Residents Dr. Nachiket Brahmankar, Dr. Isna Rafat Khan, and Dr. Supriya Sahu for conducting the proceedings smoothly.
The CME reinforced JNMC’s commitment to advancing pharmacovigilance in alignment with national health policies.
