Jamia Millia Islamia Hosts High-Level Philippine Delegation to Explore Future Collaborations and Academic Exchange
Nai Dilli : The Faculty of Education, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), recently hosted a high-level Philippine delegation from the Provincial Local Government of Benguet to discuss a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two sides. This agreement aims to foster educational exchanges, professional development, and cross-cultural immersion, with a specific focus on strengthening teacher education programs.
The MoU outlines plans for reciprocal exchanges of teaching and non-teaching personnel, as well as students, between JMI and institutions in Benguet. It also proposes bilateral virtual and onsite training programs for teachers and staff from the Provincial Local Government of Benguet to enhance professional development. Furthermore, the agreement emphasizes promoting cross-cultural immersion for representatives from the Department of Education (DepEd) Benguet and the Provincial Local Government of Benguet, extending the partnership beyond academics to cultural diplomacy.
The Philippine delegation included ESTELA P. LEON-CARIÑO, EdD, CESO III Regional Director/Director IV – DepEd CAR; LORNA M. YACO, PhD, Education Program Specialist II from the Department of Education; and RACHELLE A. CARINO, Executive Assistant to the Governor of Benguet Province. From JMI, Dean Prof. Jessy Abraham of the Faculty of Education, JMI, and Prof. Ushvinder Kaur Popli, Dean of International Relations, JMI, were present, along with faculty members from JMI’s Department of Teacher Training & Non-Formal Education (IASE) and the Department of Educational Studies. Their active participation in the discussions and the deliberation of ideas for the MoU highlighted the collaborative and participatory nature of this initiative, ensuring the objectives are deeply rooted in academic expertise and practical needs.
This collaboration is expected to benefit JMI by strengthening its academic programs and expanding research opportunities, while for Benguet, it offers a direct pathway to enhance the professional development of its educators, aiming for improved educational quality. The partnership also seeks to enrich cultural understanding and cultivate global citizenship. This MoU signifies a significant step towards a lasting partnership between JMI and Benguet, promoting academic growth, professional development, and stronger ties between India and the Philippines.
