Nai Dilli : The Girls’ Hostel Sports Day was organised on April 15, 2025, at the NMAK Pataudi Sports Complex, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), marked by high enthusiasm and active participation. This event was orchestrated by the Girls’ Hostel Committee, under the supervision of Hostel Wardens Dr. Naziz Khan and Dr. Sheenam Ayub, with the objective of fostering physical fitness, teamwork, and a sense of community among the residents of the hostel.
The event was officially opened by Prof. Ghulam Yazdani, the acting DSW, alongside Prof. Nafis Ahmad, Honorary Director of Games & Sports at JMI. Prof. Yazdani delivered an inspiring address to the attendees, emphasizing the significance of sports in everyday life and the empowerment of women through physical activity. Prof. Nafis Ahmad elaborated on the crucial role that sports play in the holistic development of individuals, highlighting their particularly profound impact on the physical and health well-being of girls.

In an era marked by sedentary lifestyles and screen addiction, it is increasingly vital to encourage girls to engage actively in sports.
The lemon spoon race featuring the staff members of the J & K Girls Hostel stole the show. During her welcome speech, the hostel Provost, Prof. Sabah Khan, urged the residents to remain active and to strike a healthy balance between their academic pursuits and recreational activities.
A diverse range of track and field events took place, featuring 100-meter sprints, relay races, tug of war, and indoor activities like chess and carom. The turnout was remarkable, with participants from all age groups demonstrating their athletic skills and teamwork. The tug of war contest between the senior and junior residents stood out as the day’s main attraction, eliciting enthusiastic cheers and laughter from the spectators.
Medals and certificates will be awarded to the winners and participants on the Annual Day Celebration of the hostel.

The day concluded with a vote of thanks by the sports coordinator, followed by refreshments and a group photo session. The event not only provided a refreshing break from academic routine but also strengthened the bonds among hostel residents through healthy competition and shared celebration.
