DHMCT, Jamia Hamdard Organises Three-Day Induction-cum-Orientation Programme Culminating in World Tourism Day 2026

The Department of Hotel Management & Catering Technology (DHMCT), School of Management & Business Studies (SMBS), Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi, organised a three-day Induction-cum-Orientation Programme culminating in World Tourism Day 2026 from 23rd to 25th September 2026, centred on the theme “Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence to Redesign Tourism.”
The programme was designed to familiarise newly inducted students with the academic, institutional and student-support ecosystem of Jamia Hamdard while providing meaningful exposure to the contemporary tourism and hospitality industry.
The programme witnessed the gracious presence and guidance of senior University dignitaries, including the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Prof. (Dr.) M. Z. Abdin; Dean, SMBS, Prof. (Dr.) Sana Beg; and Prof. (Dr.) Md. Shahnawaz Abdin, Head, DHMCT, along with other University functionaries and faculty members. The orientation sessions introduced students to academic processes, student welfare, discipline, examination systems, library services, residential facilities, cultural and sports activities, NCC, NSS and other institutional resources.
The programme also featured a range of experiential and creative activities, including the “Paint Your Future” Poster Making Activity and a University Tour, enabling students to engage with the University environment beyond the formal classroom setting. The activities were coordinated by faculty members Dr. Priyanka Verma, Dr. Abhishek Kumar, Ms. Deepali Indora and Dr. Anubha, with the support of the Department and organising team.
The concluding day, marking World Tourism Day 2026, brought together distinguished personalities from the tourism and hospitality sector. Dr. Gour Kanjilal, Executive Director, Indian Association of Tour Operators (IATO) and former Deputy Director General, Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and shared valuable insights into the evolution, opportunities and emerging dimensions of Indian tourism. The programme was further enriched by the presence of Ms. Shaurya Asnani, Cluster Manager – Learning & Development, Lemon Tree Hotels, and Chef Mukesh Kumar, Executive Chef, President’s House, as Guests of Honour. Their interactions provided students with practical perspectives on professional expectations, hospitality operations, leadership, skill development and career opportunities in the sector.
The three-day programme culminated in an engaging Question-and-Answer Session, providing students an opportunity to interact directly with the distinguished speakers. Overall, the programme served as a meaningful platform for welcoming the new cohort, strengthening their institutional orientation and connecting academic learning with the evolving realities of the tourism and hospitality industry.
