Department of Pharmacology at JNMC Welcomes New MD Residents with Comprehensive Induction Programme

Nai Dilli : The Department of Pharmacology, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), hosted an induction programme to formally welcome the incoming MD Pharmacology residents of the 2024 batch. The event marked the beginning of their academic journey and reflected the department’s commitment to fostering an inclusive, intellectually stimulating, and professionally enriching environment.
In his inaugural address, Professor Syed Ziaur Rahman, Chairman of the Department, offered an introduction to the visionary ideals of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, the founder of AMU, and underscored the university’s legacy in shaping progressive and research-oriented medical education.
He highlighted the department’s state-of-the-art infrastructure and key academic initiatives, including the Drug and Poison Information Centre (DPIC), Adverse Drug Reaction (ADR) Monitoring Centre, and the Medical Device Adverse Event Monitoring Centre (MDMC). He also emphasized the critical role these centres play in supporting national health programmes such as the Pharmacovigilance Programme of India (PvPI) and the Materiovigilance Programme of India (MvPI).

Further enriching the proceedings, Dr. Irfan Ahmad Khan offered a detailed overview of the postgraduate curriculum, aligning it with the latest National Medical Commission (NMC) guidelines.
Dr. Ahmar Hasan traced the historical development of JNMC, highlighting its enduring contributions to medical education and research. Dr. Jameel Ahmad followed with an insightful account of AMU’s academic heritage and its prestigious recognition as an Institute of Eminence, underlining its stature on both national and international fronts.
The programme also featured interactive sessions that encouraged dialogue between the new residents and faculty members. The residents expressed their aspirations, shared initial reflections, and demonstrated enthusiasm for becoming a part of the department’s academic fabric.
