Appeals to Sonam Wangchuk to Pursue Student Reforms Through Dialogue; Urges Peaceful End to Protest, Stresses Rule of Law : Prof. Jasim Mohammad

NEW DELHI : Prof. Jasim Mohammad, former Media Advisor of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), has issued an open letter to social activist, Humanist Sonam Wangchuk, urging him to pursue the campaign against examination paper leaks through constitutional dialogue and democratic institutions, while appealing for a peaceful conclusion to the ongoing protest.

In his letter, Prof. Mohammad acknowledged Sonam Wangchuk’s efforts to highlight concerns over the integrity of India’s examination system and described the issue of question paper leaks as one that affects the aspirations of millions of students. Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent assurance on “X” of stringent action against paper leak cases, including the establishment of fast-track courts, he said the government’s commitment reflected its resolve to safeguard students’ interests through legal and institutional mechanisms.

The letter further noted that the Centre had deputed two senior Union Ministers to engage in discussions with Sonam Wangchuk, describing the initiative as evidence of the government’s willingness to address concerns through dialogue.

While reaffirming that peaceful protest is a fundamental democratic right, Prof. Jasim Mohammad argued that prolonged disruptions to public life should be avoided.

Prof. Jasim Mohammad appealed to Wangchuk to request the protesters to disperse peacefully and allow the reform process to continue through constitutional means. He emphasised that meaningful and lasting reforms in the examination system could best be achieved through constructive engagement, adherence to the rule of law, and cooperation among all stakeholders.
