AMU’s Physical Education Department Launches 25-Day Yoga Workshop Ahead of International Day of Yoga

Nai Dilli : The Department of Physical Education at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) kicked off a 25-day Yoga workshop today, to mark the lead-up to the International Day of Yoga, celebrated globally on June 21. The event is part of a nationwide initiative by the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, to promote health and wellness through yoga.
Prof. Zamirullah Khan is coordinating the event, with Prof. Syed Tariq Murtaza serving as the Nodal Officer and Dr. Naushad Waheed Ansari as the Secretary.
Inaugurating the workshop, Prof. Ikram Hussain, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Chairperson of the Department of Physical Education, emphasized the timeless relevance of yoga in modern life. He noted, “Yoga is not just a set of physical exercises; it is a holistic discipline that unites the body, mind, and spirit. In today’s fast-paced world, where stress and anxiety are taking a toll on mental health, the ancient practice of yoga offers a natural and accessible path to inner peace and resilience.”

Earlier, Dr. Naushad Waheed Ansari, the resource person for the first five days of the workshop welcomed the participants, including students, faculty members, and yoga enthusiasts.
On the first day, 53 participants took part in foundational yoga sessions and discussions highlighting the role of yoga in preventive healthcare and holistic living. The practical session was conducted by yoga instructor Mr. Dharmender Singh.
Prof. Zamirullah Khan proposed a vote of thanks, appreciating the enthusiasm of the participants and the support from the university administration. He expressed hope that the workshop would continue to witness growing participation and engagement in the coming days.
The Department of Physical Education looks forward to maintaining the same enthusiasm and active participation throughout the remaining days of the workshop.
