CNMS urges President of India to confer Bharat Ratna posthumously on Ratan Tata

New Delhi, September 26, 2026: The Centre for NaMo Studies (CNMS) has urged President of India Droupadi Murmu to confer the Bharat Ratna posthumously on veteran industrialist and philanthropist Ratan Naval Tata, describing his contribution to India’s economic growth, social development and nation-building as exceptional.

In a statement, CNMS Chairman Prof. Jasim Mohammad said Ratan Naval Tata represented “ethical leadership, humility and compassion” and had left an enduring legacy through the Tata Group and Tata Trusts.

“Shri Ratan Tata was a visionary industrialist and a guiding light of ethical leadership, humility and compassion. His life’s work through the Tata Group and Tata Trusts has touched millions of lives and set a benchmark for nation-building and social responsibility. Conferring the Bharat Ratna posthumously would be a fitting tribute to his unparalleled contributions to India and the world,” Prof. Mohammad said.

The CNMS Executive Committee to President of India said Tata’s legacy extended well beyond corporate achievements. Under his leadership, the Tata Group expanded its global presence while retaining a strong emphasis on philanthropy and social welfare. His association with initiatives in areas including education, healthcare and community development made him a widely recognised figure in India’s public life.

CNMS Trustee Dr Divya Tanwar said a posthumous Bharat Ratna would also recognise the broader values associated with Tata’s public life, including integrity, responsible enterprise, philanthropy and commitment to social development.
