JMI hosts National Seminar on ‘Special and Inclusive Education Initiatives in New Era’

Nai Dilli : The Office of the Grievance Redressal for Persons with Disabilities, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) in collaboration with Dr. Zakir Husain Memorial Welfare Society and the Department of Teacher Training & Non-Formal Education (IASE), Faculty of Education,JMI jointly organized a National Seminar on “Special and Inclusive Education Initiatives in New Era” yesterday at the Conference Hall, Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Basic Sciences of the university.

The inaugural session of the seminar commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran by Mr. Aftab Alam invoking a serene and respectful atmosphere. The anchor formally welcomed the dignitaries and participants, including Dr. Kartar Singh, Special Guest, Professor Rajan Patel, Chief Guest, Professor Farah Farooqui, Head of the Department, Professor Tanuja, Dean of Academic Affairs, Professor Bharti Sharma, Faculty Member, Dr. Mohd. Faijullah Khan, Convener, and Dr. Saurabh Ray, Co-Convener.

Dr. Mohd. Faijullah Khan, Convener, extended a warm welcome to all participants of the seminar and Continuing Rehabilitation Education (CRE) programme. He highlighted that a total of 90 participants attended, including 40 paper presenters and 50 CRE participants.

Dr. Saurabh Ray, Co-Convener, introduced the theme of the seminar and emphasized its objective of providing a platform for educators and practitioners to discuss contemporary challenges in special and inclusive education.

The faculty members, including Dr. Eram Nasir, Faculty Member, Dr. Tausif Alam, Faculty Member, Dr. Patella Rama Krishna, Faculty Member, Dr. R. Jamuna, Faculty Member, Mr. Mohd. Zuber, Faculty Member, Dr. Asjad, Faculty Member, Dr. Dori Lal, Faculty Member, Dr. Sumita Bhangu, Faculty Member, and Dr. Mumtaz Bano, Faculty Member, were also warmly welcomed.

The seminar was conducted in offline mode across various venues within the university and comprised four thematic sessions focusing on Visual Impairment, Braille and Rehabilitation, Inclusive Education and Assessment, Therapeutic and Psychological Interventions, Integrative Approaches to ASD & SLD, and AI-Based Assistive Technologies.

The seminar ended with the valedictory session which began with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by a welcome address by Dr. Mohd. Faijullah Khan, Convener, who expressed deep gratitude for the active participation and successful conduct of the seminar. Professor Tanuja, Dean of Academic Affairs, addressed the gathering, highlighting the importance of academic excellence, innovation, and quality in teacher education and rehabilitation practices.

Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi, Registrar, graced the occasion and appreciated the successful organization of the seminar. He congratulated the organizing team and encouraged participants to contribute meaningfully to the field of education and rehabilitation, emphasizing dedication and continuous learning.

Professor Farah Farooqui, Head of the Department, delivered an insightful address, sharing her academic expertise and emphasizing the need for a holistic, progressive, and socially responsive approach in teacher education, inclusive education, and special education.

Tokens of appreciation were presented to the dignitaries in recognition of their valuable contributions. The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Dr. Saurabh Ray, Co-Convener, who acknowledged the efforts of all stakeholders and formally declared the seminar successfully concluded.
