JMI’s Department of Architecture Hosts Extension Lecture on Energy Simulation Software for Sustainable Building Design

The Department of Architecture, Faculty of Architecture and Ekistics at Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), successfully organized an extension lecture titled ‘Fundamentals of Energy Simulation Software: Parameters and Interface Overview’ on Wednesday, September 23, 2026. The three-hour session, held from 9:00 AM to 12:00 NOON, focused on equipping students with advanced digital tools essential for modern, sustainable architectural practices.

The event was coordinated by Dr. Mariam Ahmad, Associate Professor, and Dr. Mohammad Amir Khan, Assistant Professor. Architect Ghazzala Parween from BIM NATION, New Delhi, served as the expert resource person for the session.

Following an introductory address by Dr. Mohammad Amir Khan, the lecture highlighted the critical role of energy simulation software in designing net-zero energy and sustainable buildings. Ar. Ghazzala introduced participants to industry-standard applications, including DesignBuilder and EnergyPlus, before transitioning into a detailed exploration of Autodesk Forma site design.

Emphasizing the importance of cloud-based platforms for conducting comprehensive energy analyses, the lecture transitioned into a hands-on workshop. Students were guided through the Autodesk Forma interface, receiving step-by-step instructions on project creation, site identification, and geographical positioning within a global context.

During the practical segment, students actively conducted essential environmental evaluations, which included solar analysis, wind analysis, microclimate analysis, and embodied carbon analysis. The interactive format proved highly effective, providing attendees with a clear understanding of how to leverage cloud-based tools to assess and optimize the environmental potential of their design projects.
