Jamia Hamdard Celebrates 80th Independence Day with full Fervour and Patriotic Zeal under the Leadership of Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Asgar Ali

JAMIA HAMDARD (A Govt. Aided Deemed to be University) celebrated the 80th Independence Day with great enthusiasm, patriotic fervour, and national pride at the Hamdard Convention Centre, New Delhi.
On this occasion, Prof. (Dr.) Asgar Ali, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Jamia Hamdard unfurled the National Flag at 9:30 a.m. on the main lawns of the Hamdard Convention Centre, New Delhi, followed by the singing of the national anthem. The ceremony was graced by a distinguished gathering that included Col. Tahir Mustafa, Registrar; Mr. S. S. Akhtar, Controller of Examinations; DSW; Deans of Schools; Director (CDOE); Chief Proctor; Heads of Departments; Deputy Registrar; Provosts; NSS Convenor; Lt. (Dr.) Mohd. Ashif Khan; Executive Engineer (Officiating); university officials; faculty members; staff; NCC cadets; NSS volunteers; and students.
Prof. (Dr.) Asgar Ali, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor received the Guard of Honour presented by the 3rd and 4th Delhi Battalions of NCC cadets (Boys and Girls) and the university security personnel.
As part of the Independence Day celebrations, an Inter-University Elocution Competition was organized at the Hakeem Abdul Hameed Auditorium on 12 August 2026. More than 50 participants from the University of Delhi, Jamia Millia Islamia, and Jamia Hamdard participated in the competition. The young participants shared their perspectives and ideas on the theme, “Atmanirbhar Bharat: How to Achieve the Goal.” The competition provided a meaningful platform for students to express their views on the vision of a self-reliant India and discuss strategies to achieve this national goal.
The programme also featured vibrant patriotic performances, including melodious patriotic songs presented by the cultural team led by Prof. Khursheed Ahmad Ansari, Cultural Coordinator, and Dr. Kalpana Zutshi, President, Music Club SAAZ. An impactful short skit was also presented by NCC cadets (boys and Girls). Certificates of participation were presented to the best performers in the cultural activities by the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor. In addition, the Vice-Chancellor and the Registrar felicitated the university’s security personnel in recognition of their extraordinary duties and dedicated services.
In his keynote address, Prof. (Dr.) Asgar Ali paid tribute to the countless sacrifices made by the freedom fighters who envisioned an independent India founded on the values of justice, equality and fraternity. He emphasized that their courage and determination remind us that freedom is not merely a gift but a responsibility that must be upheld with dignity, commitment and purpose. He extended his heartfelt greetings to all stakeholders, faculty members, staff and students of Jamia Hamdard on this auspicious occasion.
Prof. Ali further emphasized that as citizens of this great nation, and members of the Jamia Hamdard family, it is our collective responsibility to contribute meaningfully to the progress and development of India. He stated that Education, innovation, and compassion must be the pillars upon which we build a stronger and more inclusive society.
He also highlighted that Jamia Hamdard has consistently remained committed to excellence in education, research, innovation, and service to humanity.
The celebrations concluded with the distribution of sweets among the members of the Jamia Hamdard fraternity, marking a joyous, memorable, and patriotic celebration of the 80th Independence Day.
